A very cool free activity for children during your stay at Hotel Heere in Raamsdonksveer near the Biesbosch is the Mouse and Elephant Treasure Hunt in the Municipality of Geertruidenberg. Spread across the municipality, 14 elephants and 20 mice are hidden! The mice are in Geertruidenberg and Raamsdonk and the elephants in Raamdonksveer. In the mouse and elephant treasure hunts you will come across a bit of history, playgrounds and various fun assignments. Discover Geertruidenberg in a fun and interactive way. You can do the tour on foot or by bike. It is a very fun treasure hunt to do with friends, parents or grandparents. Search the villages in search of the mouse and elephant families. Discover the mouse history
Geertruidenberg was originally named after Saint Gertrude (Sint Geertruid). According to a legend, Saint Gertrude once lured all the mice away from Geertruidenberg. However, a few mice did not fall for this and stayed where they were! A number of these mice went to live at the Lambertus church in Raasdonk until the flood of 1421. Eventually it became very wet there too and they quickly sought higher places. Nevertheless, you will still encounter mice in Geertruidenberg and Raamsdonk! During the mouse tour you will search for all the mice of the family. Behind every mouse there is a nice story that has to do with the history of Raamsdonk or Geertruidenberg.
The arrival of the elephants
The elephant family has its roots in Raamsdonksveer. But how did the elephants get there? This is because of Fritske the Elephant who was once brought from a zoo by a skipper. Soon his friends were also shipped. The elephant family consists of splashy, chaotic, cheerful, hard-working and a few crazy elephants. Nowadays there are 14 elephants hidden in Raamsdonksveer. Can you find them all?
Mouse and elephant detectives wanted
We are always looking for enthusiastic mouse and elephant detectives! At the reception of Hotel Heere you can pick up an amulet, sticker sheet and route for free. The surprising children's experience tours go along beautiful historical places, viewpoints and playgrounds. After the treasure hunt the children receive a beautiful certificate.
